- Ensure you take a snapshot of each vCenter server appliance management interface prior to following this update procedure. (MRSVCS01 and RLAVCS01).
- Ensure Rubrik is not backing up either system.
- Note which EXSI host each VM is currently running on.
- Sign into each EXSI host and ensure the snapshot is visible.

Log in to the vCenter Server Appliance Management Interface (https://appliance-IP-address-or-FQDN:5480) as root.
Example: https://vcsa.example.com:5480
Note: For vSphere 7.x and 8.x, the vSphere SSO Administrator Credentials "[email protected]" can be used for patching the appliance instead of the root account
Our current vCenter server management interfaces are running on: MRSVCS01 and RLAVCS01 - Click on Update tab.
- Ensure the CHECK UPDATES button is selected for CD ROM + URL.
- Select the target patch of vCenter. For more information about vCenter build numbers, see Build numbers and versions of VMware vCenter Server (326316).
- Click "STAGE ONLY"
- Once staging has completed, click "RUN PRE-UPDATE CHECKS".
- If any issues arise, acknowledge each and then proceed or stop the process.
- Click Install
- Read and accept the End user license Agreement.
- A system pre-check verifies that the patches can be successfully installed with the provided information.
- Sign in using the vSphere SSO Administrator password (ie: [email protected]).
- Confirm the vCenter Server has been backed up before clicking Finish.
- Patching will start.
- Patching is complete when the message "Installation succeeded" is shown.
If any issues occur and you need to revert to the snapshot taken prior to the update do the following:
- Navigate to the EXSI host the VM was running on (for example: https://rla-esxi03.mopt.vic.gov.au/ui/#/host/vms/193)
- Select the VM and then click Actions.
- Click Snapshots, manage snapshots and then revert if necessary.
